Phrasal verbs באנגלית: 156 פעלים נפוצים עם פירושים ודוגמאות

Phrasal verb הוא פועל באנגלית יחד עם מילה קטנה כמו up, out או off, שביחד יוצרים משמעות חדשה: give up פירושו להפסיק לנסות, ו-look after פירושו לטפל במישהו. לפניכם 156 phrasal verbs נפוצים באנגלית, מסודרים לפי הפועל, עם פירושים פשוטים ומשפטי דוגמה שאפשר ללמוד מהם.

להרבה לומדים, phrasal verbs הם החלק המבלבל ביותר באנגלית: אתם יודעים מה פירוש put ומה פירוש up, אבל put up with עדיין לא אומר לכם כלום. החדשות הטובות הן שלא צריך ללמוד את כולם. צריך את הנפוצים, בתוך משפטים אמיתיים, ולחזור עליהם מספיק פעמים כדי שייקלטו.

מה זה phrasal verb?

Phrasal verb (בעברית קוראים לו לפעמים פועל מורכב) הוא פועל שמצטרפות אליו מילית אחת או שתיים (particle), בדרך כלל תוארי פועל או מילות יחס כמו up, down, in, out, on, off, away, back או over. הצירוף מתפקד כיחידת משמעות אחת, ולעתים קרובות אי אפשר לנחש את המשמעות שלו מהחלקים.

השוו:

  • run: לרוץ, לנוע מהר ברגליים.
  • run into someone: להיתקל במישהו במקרה.
  • run out of something:

לכן הרשימה שלמטה מסודרת לפי פועל: למדו איך get, go, come, take, put ועוד כמה פעלים מתחברים למיליות שלהם, ותבינו את רוב ה-phrasal verbs שתפגשו.

  • up: השלמה או עלייה (eat up, fill up, speed up).
  • down: ירידה או עצירה (slow down, calm down, shut down).
  • out: הוצאה, סיום או גילוי (throw out, run out, find out).
  • off: ניתוק, יציאה לדרך או ביטול (take off, set off, call off).
  • on: המשכיות או התחלה (carry on, go on, turn on).
  • back: חזרה (come back, call back, pay back).
  • over: עשייה מחדש או סקירה (think over, go over, do over).
  • away: התרחקות או הסרה (go away, give away, throw away).

ניתנים להפרדה או לא: איפה שמים את המושא?

בחלק מה-phrasal verbs המושא יכול לבוא בין הפועל למילית: "turn off the light" או "turn the light off". אלה נקראים ניתנים להפרדה (separable). אם המושא הוא כינוי גוף, הוא חייב לבוא באמצע: "turn it off", ולעולם לא "turn off it".

Phrasal verbs אחרים לא ניתנים להפרדה (inseparable): המושא תמיד בא אחרי המילית, כמו ב-"look after the kids" או ב-"get over a cold".

ברשימה שלמטה, something או someone מראים איפה נמצא המושא. אם הוא באמצע (put something off), הפועל ניתן להפרדה. אם הוא בסוף (look after someone), השאירו את הפועל והמילית צמודים.
