በአንዳንድ ሐረጋዊ ግሶች ተሳቢው (object) በግሱና በትንሹ ቃል መካከል ሊገባ ይችላል፦ «turn off the light» ወይም «turn the light off»። እነዚህ የሚለያዩ (separable) ይባላሉ። ተሳቢው ተውላጠ ስም ከሆነ ግን የግድ መሃል መግባት አለበት፦ «turn it off» እንጂ በፍጹም «turn off it» አይባልም።

በተለይ የሚጠቅመው፦ ይህን ዝርዝር በእውነት ሊጠቀሙባቸው ወደሚችሉ ቃላት ለመቀየር።

1. በአንድ ጊዜ ጥቂቶችን ይማሩ። እንደ get ወይም put ያለ አንድ ዓይነት ግስ ያላቸውን አምስት ወይም አሥር ሐረጋዊ ግሶች መርጠው አብረው ይማሯቸው።
2. ሁልጊዜ በዓረፍተ ነገር ውስጥ ይማሯቸው። ብቻውን የቆመ ሐረጋዊ ግስ በቀላሉ ይረሳል። በዓረፍተ ነገር ውስጥ ግን ትርጉሙንና ተሳቢው የት እንደሚገባ ያያሉ። ሙሉ ዓረፍተ ነገሮችን መማር ደግሞ ቃላትን ለማሻሻል ከሚረዱ ምርጥ መንገዶች አንዱ ነው።
3. ትንሹን ቃል ያስተውሉ። ትንሹ ቃል ምን እንደሚጨምር ራስዎን ይጠይቁ። በ«eat up» እና በ«fill up» ውስጥ ያለው «up» ማጠናቀቅን ያመለክታል፤ ይህ ደግሞ ቀጣዩን «up» ያለበት ግስ ያቀልልዎታል።
4. ያዳምጡና ይድገሙ። የምሳሌ ዓረፍተ ነገሮቹን ጮክ ብለው ይናገሩ፣ በጉዞ ላይም ያዳምጧቸው።
