What is spaced repetition, and why does it work?
Spaced repetition schedules each word for review just before you'd be likely to forget it, widening the interval as your memory strengthens. It's one of the most efficient, evidence-based ways to build lasting vocabulary, which is why it's at the heart of Lingocard.
How do I improve my vocabulary when learning a language?
Use the spaced-repetition and flashcard systems in the app. You can set daily, weekly, or yearly goals in our mobile apps and steadily reach the vocabulary size you're aiming for.
What is a frequency dictionary, and why start with one?
A frequency dictionary lists a language's words in order of how often they're actually used. Because a relatively small set of common words covers a large share of everyday speech and writing, learning the most frequent words first lets you understand and say more, sooner. Basic frequency dictionaries are free in our apps for any of 67 languages.
What should I learn first to reach a basic level in a language?
Start with the 100–500 most frequent words (free in our apps) and the thematic dictionaries most relevant to your daily life. Set clear goals and practise a few minutes every day — consistency is what produces results. Then connect with other learners to build confidence at your new basic level.
What are flashcards, and how do I use them effectively?
Flashcards pair a word with its meaning or translation, and are one of the simplest, most effective ways to memorise vocabulary. In Lingocard you review each card, set aside the ones you've learned, and keep cycling through the rest — with spaced repetition deciding when each word comes back.
